The Latest News in License and Registration

 

9 Alabama driver license locations to begin opening on Saturdays:

Beginning December 7, 2019 Montgomery, Sheffield, Tuscaloosa, Dothan and Jacksonville Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Examination Offices will being opening on Saturdays from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.  As of April 2019, Birmingham, Opelika, Mobile, and Huntsville have all begun Saturday operations.

“We continually work to identify ways to improve and strive to meet our customers’ needs,”  says ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor.

ALEA does not take appointments on Saturdays. Transactions are taken on a  first-come, first-served basis and include:

  • first-time driver license issuances
  • driver license renewals (including STAR IDs
  • knowledge and road skill exams
  • out of state transfers

**Please note that reinstatements of suspended licenses are only done on Monday through Friday during the normal business hours.

 

Rebuild Alabama Act 2019-2:

Beginning January 1, 2020, Alabama Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division will begin assessing an additional registration fee of $200 for each battery electric vehicle and an additional registration fee of $100 for each plug-in hybrid electric vehicle operated on the public highways of Alabama. This fee will be collected at the time of renewal or registration of the vehicle license plates.   Questions about the Rebuild Alabama tax should be directed to the Alabama Department of Revenue Motor Vehicle Division at 334-242-9000.

 

Residential Bait Privilege Hunting License (white-tailed deer and feral swine):

All hunters who wish to hunt white-tailed deer and feral swine with the aid of bait must purchase the bait privilege license. There are NO EXEMPTIONS. Even license exempt hunters are required to purchase this privilege license. No other game animals may be hunted with the aid of bait in Alabama.
